Dish Network a provider of direct broadcast satellite or {DBS} as of this writing has somehow {I don't know why?} accumulated over 13 million subscribers. Starting in 1995 they had 20,000, my guess is those must have been beta testers since Dish Network did not officially start until March of 1996. Dish Network gained another 80,000 in 1996 bringing the total to 100,000 subscribers.

In 1997 Dish Network ended up with a total of 250,000 subscribers. In 1998 they doubled it with 500,000 total subscribers. By 1999 Dish Network doubled those figures again and reached the landmark 1 million mark of total subscribers. The year 2000 brought those figures to 2 million subscribers. It went to 4 million for 2001. The 2002 year moved that figure to 5 million Dish Network total subscribers. Then Dish Network had their largest gain ever, in 2003 gaining 4 million subscribers bringing the total to 9 million subscribers.

2004 totals were unimpressive compared to the year previous, ending in 10 million subs. 2005 figures ended with 11 million subscribers. Dish Network ended 2006 with 13 million subscribers. We are now in the middle of 2007 with Dish Network having over 13 million subscribers. To me that is unbelievable! I can understand consumers in rural areas that are not yet served by Cable TV, I had Dish Network myself until happily Cable came to my area. I can now watch Football or NASCAR without any fear of loosing my picture whenever it rains or clouds up. The consumers need to know that {DBS} has big drawbacks, and that Cable TV really is the reliable choice.
